Task Status
The current state of a task in its lifecycle.
Definition
Task status indicates where a Task is in its lifecycle, from creation to completion or cancellation.
Status Types
Active (1)
The task is currently available to work on.
Characteristics:
- Shows in active task lists
- Appears in Perspectives
- Can receive reminders
- Default status for new tasks
Use for: Tasks you're working on or plan to work on soon.
Paused (2)
The task is temporarily on hold.
Characteristics:
- Hidden from most active views
- No reminders sent
- Can be resumed later
- Maintains all task data
Use for:
- Tasks blocked by external factors
- Tasks you've decided to postpone
- Tasks waiting for resources
Completed (3)
The task has been successfully finished.
Characteristics:
- Moves to Logbook
- Records completion date
- Hidden from active views
- Can be uncompleted if needed
Use for: Tasks you've finished.
Dropped (4)
The task has been abandoned or cancelled.
Characteristics:
- Archived permanently
- No longer relevant
- Hidden from all views
- Can be restored if needed
Use for:
- Tasks no longer needed
- Cancelled commitments
- Ideas you've decided against
Changing Status
Mark as Complete
- Swipe right on task
- Tap checkbox
- Keyboard shortcut: Space
Pause a Task
- Open task
- Tap status field
- Select "Paused"
Drop a Task
- Open task
- Tap status field
- Select "Dropped"
Status in Projects
Task status affects Project progress:
- Active tasks: Count toward total
- Completed tasks: Show in progress calculation
- Paused tasks: Don't affect progress
- Dropped tasks: Excluded from calculations
